World leprosy Day is coming soon

The President of ILEP delivers his message to mark World Leprosy Day on Sunday 30th January, which will be the 58th celebration of this annual day.
Raoul Follereau, orator and advocate for those with leprosy, always considered the inauguration of World Leprosy Day on 31st January 1954 as one of his finest achievements. From the very beginning, his intention was that events and celebrations on this day would highlight the fact that people with leprosy are as worthy of dignity and respect as any one and deserve to live their lives as fully as they choose.

On Sunday 30th January 2011 Mr René Stäheli, President of ILEP, would like to draw attention to continued efforts to enable persons affected by leprosy to live dignified lives. He notes the focus of the World Health Organization’s Enhanced Global Strategy, effective from 1st January 2011, on the reduction of leprosy-related disability and promoting the human rights of those affected.
